"I had vision problems because of droopy eyelids. In order to correct the problem my eye doctor referred me to Dr. Rajjoub for corrective surgery. During my first visit Dr Rajjoub explained me in detail the procedure and what discomforts, if any, I should expect during my recovery. Dr Rajjoub recommended that in addition to correct my droopy eyelids I should also have my eyebrows raised. Overall, Dr Rajjoub was very caring, compassionate making sure that I was as comfortable as possible during the surgery. "I started wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. Since then, my vision deteriorated until I was in my twenties. I couldn’t even see anything, not even something half a foot in front of me. My vision was bad. I heavily relied on glasses and contacts. Even with vision insurance, I would have to pay so much money for glasses with the extra thin lenses or the expensive contact lenses since most manufacturers did not make contacts with my prescription. When I was 22, I went to a LASIK consultation and they informed me that my vision was too high and that I was not eligible for LASIK. However, to check back in a couple years as technology improves. I went back about 7 years later and was told the exact same thing. About a year ago, one of my coworkers got LASIK done and she just raved about it. She gave me Dr.Silk’s contact information but I was hesitant to make my initial consultation. After being turned down twice for LASIK, I didn’t have high hopes for this time around. I finally made the appointment and traveled from Maryland to Virginia to see Dr. Silk. Based off my cornea and prescription, I was once again not eligible to LASIK. But, I would be a candidate for ICL surgery.

I went back to do some pre-op eye measurements. I got my surgery appointment with all of the necessary information and drugs ahead of time. By the time surgery rolled around, I wasn’t even nervous. I was excited to be able to finally see without any contacts or glasses. The surgery process was smooth. Dr. Silk was wonderful, calm, and professional. He would tell me what he was doing and what was going to happen next. The nurses in the operating room had amazing bed side manners and made sure that I was comfortable the whole entire time. I never felt uneasy or uncomfortable before or during the surgery. The surgery lasted about an hour and for the first time in 27 years, I was able to see the world without a lenses. As with ICL surgery, my vision was a hazy at first. But I could still see better than before my surgery. The next morning, I woke up and I could immediately see around my bedroom. It felt surreal. I visited two ophthalmologists and neither diagnosed by condition. When I found Dr. Rajjoub through my work at the Prince William Chamber, I visited and she was the first who suspected that I could have a more rare form of ocular lymphoma. She conducted the surgical biopsy and knew from the sample that her diagnosis was correct. Dr. Rajjoub tells it like it is and was refreshingly forthcoming & candid when describing my situation and options. Her expertise put me on a path to treatment and recovery. "First of all, although it’s not a walk-in type clinic and the office was full I was admitted on an emergency basis and was offered to wait. It took me just 20 min (!!!) before the Dr. Silk helped me. Second, while waiting in the lobby I noticed how busy the front desk lady was: she had to respond to non-stop phone calls (2 lines) and greet the patients and process their paperwork. She was incredibly polite and EFFICIENT. Third, Dr.Silk is a very nice person and my case (foreign body stuck in the eye) took us 5 min from Hi to Bye including thorough examination and the foreign body removal. So I am sure none of awaiting patients cursed me =)For the first time in the last 2.5 years living in VA I was happy to pay co-pay since that was an extremely EFFICIENT visit! "

"Dr. Rajjoub perform corrective surgery on my eyelids and eyebrows due to obscured vision caused by my eyelids sagging into my field of vision. Prior to seeing Dr. Rajjoub, I had a consultation with another plastic surgeon to address the corrective surgery and after the visit I was left with a lack of confidence related to the procedure, approach and results. He made it sound complex with iffy results.

When I went for a consultation with Dr. Rajjoub, she explained her approach to correcting my sagging eyelids that was different than the first consultation, more straight forward (as I had imagined). I was presented all of the pros and cons, of the corrective surgery and she did a great job of explaining the procedure in detail and managing my expectations. In addition, we discussed the options for improving the appearance of scar tissue below each eye. She said that she wold look into alternative (non-surgical) methods being tested to correct the appearance of the scare tissue and get back to me prior to my surgery date. She did get back to me and took the time to explain the progress being made on the non-surgical approach to improving the appearance of scare tissue and why she thought it wasn't a good fit for my situation. When I asked about correcting my eyelids and scare tissue at the same time, she said that the eyelid surgery can cause swelling where the scare tissue is which can have an adverse effect on the stitches correcting the scare tissue. Based on Dr. Rajjoub's advice, I went ahead with the corrective surgery on my eyelids. The one request that I made was that I didn't want my eyebrows and eyelids to look stretched. I wanted them to look natural.

The corrective lid and brow surgery looks GREAT! You cannot tell (other than knowing what I looked like before surgery) that I had work done on my eyes. There was swelling below the eyes that would have had a negative effect on the stitched to correct scare tissue. My follow up appointment is in February and at that time I will schedule surgery the correct the scare tissue below both eyes.

"Dr. Silk performed my LASIK surgery a few weeks ago and since then I have been seeing 20/20 (or better) without glasses or contacts for the first time in over 20 years. Dr. Silk was very thorough with all the initial testing, provided a detailed explanation of the procedure (from beginning to end), and provided excellent after-care ensuring to answer all my questions (I had a lot). It is easy to get nervous, after all, it is your vision, but Dr. Silk’s professionalism and confidence in the procedure put me at ease. It is also nice to know that Dr. Silk continues to care for his own patients after the LASIK procedure rather than referring them elsewhere. It has been my good fortune to have been referenced to your care for my recent cataract operation. As you know, I had a large cataract in my left eye that seriously impaired my vision. You performed the surgery on my left eye on March 18, 2008, at the Inova Surgical Center. Your operating technique was totally painless and was performed with the ultimate care and sensitivity. In the office the staff was friendly, helpful, always greeted me in a professional, caring manner. They were very accommodating, when I got lost, the first time I visited, and was 45 minutes late. They were so nice and allowed me to keep my appointment, with only smiles and encouragement. Dr. Silk was very helpful explaining the procedure, answering all my questions, and taking any fears I had away. As a result of the surgery, I am amazed at the results. I felt as if a miracle had occurred when the patch over my eye was removed, and I could see. Everything was so bright and clear. I had no idea how poor my vision was until I was actually able to see.
